It doesn't matter whether you call it "Soul Music", "Old School" or "Urban" (a title I never could figure out) - To me, it's all related to Gospel & Blues and, as such remains a true black american art form. Throughout the years it has been synthesized, homogenized, proselytized, criticized, idolized, & analyzed. It's also been widely imitated -- without it, there would've been no Elvis & there would be no Rolling Stones & countless other bands who've felt it's influence. It has brought people of all races & religions together in song & dance, serving as a universal antidote for bigotry & ignorance - indeed a lofty achievement for an art form.

As you can see, this compilation was intended for DJ's/radio stations, etc. & was not for sale.

This Friday's treat exists thanks to Rob & Ken..They are better known the world over as the Numero Group here in Chi-Town, and do a fantastic job of getting rare & collectable tracks from master tapes to CD & vinyl.

Here is some info they have provided: In 1973, Columbus, Ohio's Capsoul label issued it's one & only LP before limping out of business one year later. Though it is twelve inches in diameter & spins at 33 RPM, "Gently Down Your Stream" is no more an album than "Meet The Supremes"; rather, it's a compilation of five singles & one brilliant song saved from the cutting room floor. It was the Four Mints' entire commercially released output.

Mello strikes again thanks to the "Firme" cover our man Rossy produced to represent my offering. You  seem to always come through when needed & I love you for it chief !
And with the thought of  MzO's sublime evening at the concert, I thought I'd kick this set off with a touch of "Smokey" to keep her feet off the ground....you go girl ! I've been a "Smokey"/Miracles fan since 1958 & my wife & I last saw his memorable performance back in July of 1984 here locally.

Although classics are used in the title, you'll find some rare ones included on this set if you're looking for vinyl versions.
Chicago to is also well represented with ten tracks being associated with my windy city. Regardless my friends, there should be a track or two that are new to most any listener. Yes, an old vato that has you covered in more ways than one LOL!. I don't mean to be repetitive but once again these versions are not by the original artists. I suspect some of these too may surprise as not being the original artists who sang these songs. I also continue to hope that I'm able to deliver some new tunes to you from my selection.   As a Chicagoan, I pass on a bit of info on track # 5. Her name may imply that she is of Japanese heritage but actually she was born Rosemarie Timotea Aurro in Chicago, & was the product of an Italian-American family that owned a local restaurant. She is also considered by many to be the first so-called blue-eyed soul singer of the 60's.

Things have gotten a bit quiet so Mello's gotta help to keep things rollin' on Cali.Lifestyles.

This cd has long been out of print & just so happens to be a Chicago artist to .

I had the pleasure of  meeting  Tyrone in the early seventies through a fellow employee that had worked with
him in the steel mills on the far south side of Chicago. He first recorded on the Four Brothers label as "Tyrone The Wonder Boy" back then. Our meeting took place after he opened up "The Tyrone Davis' Entertainment Center" on the West Side of Chicago. After this cd was made he released a boat load of great tunes that were continually added to his Greatest Hit's List.

I hope you enjoy this early part of the great legacy of music he left behind for us.

my past twelve years have been devoted towards the collecting of ballads/sweet soul sounds that have always been my preferred personal flavor & passion.

Some great artists on this set in spite of me not being a "Northern " fan.

I often times think that the wrong side of the record was chosen.

I do offer things such as this though, to our family, because of the vast interest our collectors seem to have.

After a lot of trial & error work on his part, he shot the final links to RossyBoy to authenticate that the links were valid. Thanks Rossy for being a helper in this delivery, we appreciate it.
